Timothy found the entrance to the burrow and went right to work digging. Every once in a while he would stop to yell for his family. Silence was his only reply.

After hours of digging Timothy’s head began to hurt again. His leg throbbed even more. His heart said keep digging but his body told him it was time to rest.

He stopped for a while. As he rested he wondered about the body lying above him. A single ray of light shown directly on it. Finally, his curiosity got the best of him and he climbed to the platform. Again, he felt stronger as a warm feeling filled him. He roamed around investigating the lifeless body, wondering how it had died. Did the rocks fall on it like they had on him and his family? He nibbled on some of the spices lying next to the body.

With many unanswered questions he returned to dig at the burrow. He was feeling weak. He wondered if he would ever see the outside world again.

He wondered if there were enough spices to feed his family, if he found them safe.

The day passed and total darkness again filled the cave. Timothy curled up just inside the burrow he had been digging to rest for the night.

He awoke before dawn and just lay thinking. Gradually the cave became lighter.

“It’s daylight,” thought Timothy. But then he realized the light wasn’t coming from the cave entrance. The light shone from the body above him. Slowly the light grew brighter and brighter until the cave was as bright as a cloudless day at high noon.

Timothy shook in fear as he watched the figure above begin to move. It sat up and cast off some of the linen wrappings that covered it.
